A delimitation sitting aimed at reviewing electoral boundaries was held today at the Civic Centre of Chipili Town Council in Chipili District. The meeting was hosted by the Electoral Commission of Zambia as part of ongoing stakeholder consultations on electoral boundary realignments in Zambia.

The meeting brought together key stakeholders drawn from all parts of Chipili District, including traditional leaders, civic leaders, community representatives, WDC’s, political stakeholders, and members of the general public. The sitting provided a platform for stakeholders to discuss and make submissions regarding the current constituency boundaries and the need for improved representation.
During the deliberations, it was proposed that Chipili Constituency be divided into two constituencies in order to enhance service delivery, improve political representation, and respond to population growth and geographical coverage challenges. The proposed new constituencies are:
1. Chipili Constituency
2. Chibalashi Constituency
It was further proposed that each of the two constituencies should have six wards, bringing governance and representation closer to the people.
Stakeholders present emphasized the importance of equitable development, improved accessibility of elected leaders to communities, and efficient management of electoral processes. Many participants welcomed the proposal, noting that Chipili District has expanded in population and settlement patterns over the years.
The delimitation sitting forms part of broader national consultations aimed at ensuring fair and effective electoral representation across the country. The submissions gathered during the meeting will be considered as part of the national delimitation review process.

The meeting concluded with appreciation to all stakeholders for their participation and commitment to democratic governance and inclusive development in Chipili District.
