The Local Authority recently conducted an orientation meeting with village headmen aimed at strengthening collaboration on land administration, development control, and orderly planning within Chipili District Township.
The meeting addressed four key agenda items: Plot Application Procedure, Building Permit Application, Township Boundary, and Farming Activities within the Township
During discussions on the plot application procedure, headmen were advised to guide community members and investors to follow the official land application process through the local authority. This ensures proper planning, legal ownership, and access to essential services such as roads, water supply, and drainage systems.
On the building permit application, the Building Inspector emphasized the importance of obtaining building permits before any construction begins. Building permits ensure compliance with planning regulations, building standards, and safety requirements, contributing to sustainable district development.
A key highlight of the meeting was the presentation of the OFFICIAL TOWNSHIP BOUNDARY MAP, which was availed to all headmen. The map was signed by the late President Michael Chilufya Sata, the Minister, the Permanent Secretary, the Council Secretary, and Chief Mwenda of Mwenda Chiefdom, authorizing the land as Chipili District Township.
Following this presentation, the meeting resolved that:
1.Headmen within the township boundary should stop selling land and instead encourage stakeholders to purchase land from the local authority.
2.Posters will be mounted in strategic areas to sensitize community members about the township boundary and proper land acquisition procedures.
3.The Building Inspector will intensify inspections to curb illegal land selling and unauthorized developments.
Headmen also emphasized the need for members of the public who have acquired plots in the township but have not yet developed them to do so, as delayed development is slowing down infrastructure growth and overall district development.
On farming activities within the township, it was resolved that farmers must obtain permission from the local authority before conducting any farming activities to ensure proper land use planning and alignment with urban development plans.
The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of traditional leadership and the local authority to promote orderly land management and accelerate development within the district.
