A warm welcome to Chipili Council Website, a platform created to give you our valued and esteemed public the opportunity to interact with us, as well as to ensure that information on services and opportunities in Chipili District is made available and easily accessible to the general public.Chipili was declared a district in 2012 by the late President Michael Chilufya Sata under Statutory Instrument No. 79 of 2012. Since then the district is slowly witnessing the much-needed development. The name Chipili is derived from the terrain which is mainly rocky and mountainous. In the local ‘Chishinga’ language, Chipili means “Big Mountain”. Chipili District is situated 1,040 km from Lusaka, the Capital City of Zambia and 85km from Mansa, the Provincial Headquaters of Luapula Province. It covers a land area of 4319 square kilometres and has a population of about 46,544 people as at the 2022 census. It has one constituency (Chipili) and Twelve (12) wards. Currently Chipili has two chiefdoms namely Mwenda and Mutipula both recognized/ gazetted and has a total of about 189 villages.
